The impacts of bleach & the benefits of non-toxic cleaning.

If you’re accustomed to using non-toxic cleaners at home, the strong scent of bleach hitting your nose in public places such as restrooms and restaurants is probably offsetting. While some find comfort in the scent of bleach as a sign of the utmost in sanitary care, is it really a necessary method to use in your home, or will toxic-free cleaning products do the trick?

According to the American Lung Association, cleaning products that often include harmful chemicals, such as ammonia and bleach can irritate the eyes or throat, cause headaches and other health problems. Some products release harmful chemicals, including volatile organic compounds that also contribute to chronic respiratory problems. What’s even more alarming is when bleach is misused or mixed with other chemicals, it can create dangerous airborne particles that are harmful for you and your pets, especially if the area where it is used has poor ventilation.

A recent article published by the Good Housekeeping Institute states that there are several ways to disinfect household surfaces without using chemicals. One of the tips they offer is to look for products that are approved by the U.S. EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).  We also advise reading the product’s list of ingredients.  For example, Casabella Infuse cleaning formulations are non-toxic and made from a blend of synthetically and naturally derived fragrance components. These naturally derived ingredients come from essential oils and naturally occurring sources such as fruits, flowers, treemoss, oakmoss and more. The fragrances used do not include chemicals, such Carcinogens, Bleach, Phthalates, Formaldehyde-donors, Parabens, Nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs), BPA, SLES, Endocrine, Disruptors, Hydroquinone, Butyl (2-butoxyethanol), Triclosan, Ammonia, Triclocarban, Chlorine, BHA, Formaldehyde, BHT & Harsh Mineral Acids.  This means there are no hidden chemicals in our formulas that you need to worry about.

What about the cleanliness part? How do you know your surfaces are thoroughly being cleaned with a non-toxic cleaner like Casabella’s Infuse line?

Set your worries aside--each of the Casabella Infuse cleaning concentrates is PH balanced for specific surfaces to ensure each type of surface is thoroughly cleaned, safely and without any harmful chemicals. Take, for example, the Bathroom Surface Cleaner, which has a PH of 1.1 - 2.5. This more acidic base was formulated to deep clean a variety of bathroom surfaces, including ceramic, porcelain and glazed tile, copper, bronze, and chrome bathroom fixtures, and bath and shower interiors. Since common household surfaces, such as stainless steel, sealed wood, natural stone, glass, vinyl, and more tend to attract oils from food, proteins, and other dirt hands and fingers touch and leave on surfaces, the All Purpose Surface Cleaner is formulated with a PH of 9.0 - 11.0.

So next time you’re shopping for cleaning products for your home, leave the bleach on the shelf—be it virtual or IRL (in real life--and toss a non-toxic cleaning product line like the Casabella’s Infuse into your cart.  What you’ll get is a fresh, clean-smelling home that is free from harsh chemicals.  An even bigger plus, you can rest assured that our products are not tested on animals, ever.
